Technology meets Nature
A digital representation of marine life to raise awareness about ecological protection at Desaru Beach.
Introduction
This project places a giant "Digital Orca"—resembling a 4-bit video game figure—on the waterfront of Desaru Beach, Malaysia. It is a clever mix of art and advocacy.
Desaru is a popular tourist destination, but the beach often suffers from pollution and rubbish, especially after the monsoon season. By placing this state-of-the-art representation of the ocean in a polluted environment, we hope to stimulate a discussion about the fragility of marine life.
"We should not let technology take over the duty of securing nature."
Concept & Research
The interconnection of Digital Orca and Desaru Beach serves as a symbol emphasizing the importance of the marine environment.
Artistic Style
The sculpture uses a pixel-like form (similar to Lego or 8-bit games) to show how modern society shapes our understanding of wildlife.
Location Context
Located at Desaru Beach. Despite its beauty, post-monsoon seasons bring rubbish. The sculpture contrasts this pollution with digital perfection.
Symbolism
The black and white sculpture embodies the concept that the environment is strong and beautiful, yet fragile.
Project Visual Overview
Visualizing the impact of pollution and the digital intervention.
